Carlson Smashes Stunning Century as Glamorgan Crush Somerset

Glamorgan won by 7 wickets (with 37 balls remaining) against Somerset at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff in the 23rd match of 112 in the T20 Blast 2026. Kiran Carlson produced a breathtaking 109 off 45 balls to chase down 172 in just 13.5 overs, after Nathan McAndrew‘s 4/15 had restricted Somerset to 171/9. A dominant all-round display from the hosts lifts them to 11th, while Somerset slip to 8th.

First Innings – Somerset 171/9 (20 overs)

Tom Banton looked like he was going to take the game away from Glamorgan early. He blasted 59 off just 25 balls – 7 fours and 4 sixes at a strike rate of 236. But his partnership with Joshua Thomas (10 off 14, lbw at 51/1 in the 5th over) was the only period Somerset were on top. Banton was caught at 74/2 in the 7th over, and from there the innings fell apart.

Tom Abell made 13 off 13 before being bowled at 106/3 in the 12th over. James Rew contributed 22 off 20 (2×4) but was caught at 115/4 in the 13th. Lewis Gregory hit a quick 10 off 7 (1×6) before being bowled at 133/5 in the 15th, and Thomas Rew added 15 off 13 (2×4) before falling at 141/6 in the 16th. The tail offered little – Craig Overton made 5 (caught at 168/7), Daniel Sams hit 22 off 18 (1×4, 1×6) before being caught at 170/8, and Lewis Goldsworthy fell for 2 at 171/9. Josh Shaw finished on 1 not out.

Nathan McAndrew was magnificent. His 4/15 from 4 overs at an economy of 3.75 was the bowling performance of the round – ripping through Somerset’s middle and lower order. Mason Crane took 3/42, while Ned Leonard (1/31) and Daniel Douthwaite (1/37) chipped in. James Neesham (0/22) and Ben Kellaway (0/18) went wicketless.

Second Innings – Glamorgan 175/3 (13.5 overs)

This was the Kiran Carlson show. The Glamorgan captain was in outrageous touch from ball one, smashing 109 off just 45 deliveries with 13 fours and 6 sixes at a strike rate of 242. It was a masterclass in T20 batting – finding the gaps, clearing the ropes, and never letting Somerset’s bowlers settle.

Will Smale played an excellent supporting role with 40 off 27 (6×4, SR 148), and together they took the game away completely. Ben Kellaway fell cheaply for 3 at 155/2 in the 13th over, and Kiran Carlson was finally caught at 146/1 in the 12th, but Sean Dickson came in and hammered 16 not out off just 5 balls (4×4, SR 320) to seal victory with more than 6 overs to spare. Henry Hurle finished on 2 not out.

Somerset’s bowlers were put to the sword. Lewis Gregory took 1/21 and Joshua Thomas picked up 1/14, but no one could stem the flow. Daniel Sams went for 31 from 2 overs (Econ 15.5), Jake Ball conceded 14 off a single over, Craig Overton leaked 34 from 3, Josh Shaw went for 33 from 2.5, and Lewis Goldsworthy conceded 25 from 2.

Statz MVP

Nathan McAndrew takes the Statz MVP award with a match impact rating of 188.06 – the highest in this round of fixtures. His 4/15 from 4 overs restricted Somerset to a below-par total and set the platform for Glamorgan’s demolition job. The Statz MVP rating calculates impact based on match context – and McAndrew’s spell during the middle overs when Somerset were trying to accelerate was devastating. No official Man of the Match was awarded.

Turning Point

The dismissal of Tom Banton at 74/2 in the 7th over transformed this match. He was single-handedly keeping Somerset ahead of the game with 59 off 25, and his departure triggered a collapse from 74/2 to 106/3, 133/5, and eventually 171/9. Without Banton’s firepower, Somerset’s middle order could not maintain the scoring rate, and the total proved woefully inadequate.

Match Context

This was match 23 of 112 in the T20 Blast 2026. Glamorgan climb to 11th with their first win in 3 matches (4 points). It was a statement performance – chasing 172 in under 14 overs sends a message. Somerset drop to 8th with 2 wins from 3 (8 points). They will be frustrated after Banton’s brilliant start was wasted by a middle-order collapse, and their bowling had no answers to Carlson’s onslaught.
