Yorkshire’s Spin Trio Dismantle Durham for 93 in Ruthless Victory

Yorkshire won by 58 runs against Durham at Riverside Ground, Chester-le-Street in the 22nd match of 112 in the T20 Blast 2026. James Wharton‘s classy 64 off 41 anchored a modest Yorkshire total of 151/9 before the visitors’ varied bowling attack – led by spinners Moeen Ali, Dominic Bess and seamer Hasan Ali – demolished Durham for just 93 in 16.2 overs. Yorkshire maintain their perfect record and sit 2nd in the standings.

First Innings – Yorkshire 151/9 (20 overs)

Yorkshire’s innings was built almost entirely around James Wharton. Adam Lyth fell cheaply for 2 at 6/1 in the 2nd over, and William Luxton was bowled for 1 at 9/2 in the 3rd, leaving Yorkshire in early trouble. Jonny Bairstow steadied things with 43 off 37 (2×4, 2×6, SR 116) in a rebuilding stand with Wharton, but it was never fluent. Bairstow was caught at 78/3 in the 12th over.

James Wharton was the class act – 64 off 41 balls with 8 fours and a six at a strike rate of 156. He batted deep into the innings before being bowled at 124/4 in the 17th over. Around him, wickets fell regularly. Moeen Ali made just 3 off 7 (caught at 89/5), Faheem Ashraf contributed 10 off 9 before falling at 126/6, and Hasan Ali went for 3 at 129/7. Matthew Revis provided a late boost with 19 off 8 (2×4, 1×6, SR 238) before falling at 151/8, and Dominic Bess was bowled for a duck at 151/9 off the penultimate ball. Andrew Tye finished not out on 0.

Durham’s bowlers were excellent. Matty Potts was the standout with 3/20 from 4 overs at an economy of 5 – a superb spell. Kasey Aldridge backed him up with 3/28 (Econ 7), while Ben Raine took 2/37 and Callum Parkinson chipped in with 1/23 (Econ 5.75). Only Nathan Sowter went without a wicket, conceding 41 from his 4 overs.

Second Innings – Durham 93/10 (16.2 overs)

The chase was a disaster from the first over. Graham Clark was caught for 4 at 6/1 off just the 3rd ball of the innings, and Alex Lees followed for 2 at 10/2 in the 2nd over. Ollie George Robinson was run out for 1 at 20/3, and when Colin Ackermann was bowled for 4 at 41/4 in the 6th over, Durham were in freefall.

David Bedingham was Durham’s only hope. He batted well for 41 off 29 (5×4, SR 141), but when he was caught at 62/5 in the 10th over, the match was effectively over. Will Rhodes ground out 11 off 16 before falling at 66/6, and from there it was a procession. Ben Raine made 2 at 69/7, Kasey Aldridge was bowled for 2 at 69/8, Nathan Sowter went lbw for 1 at 70/9, and Matty Potts – the top-rated player in the match – was run out for 19 off 13 (2×4, 1×6) to end the innings at 93 all out. Callum Parkinson was left stranded on 4 not out.

Yorkshire’s bowling was clinical. Moeen Ali took 2/12 from 3 overs at an economy of 4, Dominic Bess claimed 2/13 from 3.2 overs (Econ 3.9), and Hasan Ali struck twice with 2/11 from just 2 overs. Faheem Ashraf was miserly with 1/7 from 2 overs (Econ 3.5), and Jafer Chohan took 1/27 from his 4. Andrew Tye went wicketless but conceded 21 from 2 overs.

Statz MVP

Matty Potts takes the Statz MVP award with a match impact rating of 131.88 – remarkably, in a losing cause. His 3/20 with the ball was the best bowling performance of the match, and he added 19 off 13 with the bat as Durham’s innings collapsed around him. The Statz MVP rating calculates impact based on match context – and Potts’ all-round contribution across both innings was the single most impactful individual performance despite Durham’s heavy defeat. No official Man of the Match was awarded.

Turning Point

The dismissal of David Bedingham at 62/5 in the 10th over killed the chase stone dead. He was the only Durham batsman who looked capable of sustaining an assault on the target – 41 off 29 at a strike rate of 141. With him gone, Durham still needed 90 from 62 balls with only the lower order to come. The innings folded for just 31 more runs.

Match Context

This was match 22 of 112 in the T20 Blast 2026. Yorkshire move to 2nd in the standings with a perfect 3 wins from 3 (12 points) – the only unbeaten side alongside the table-toppers. Their bowling depth is a serious weapon. Durham drop to 7th with 2 wins from 3 (8 points). A competitive start but this was a chastening defeat – bowled out for 93 at home is not the kind of performance that sustains a push for the knockouts.
