Donald Demolishes Notts with Savage 84 off 31 as Derbyshire Post 234
Derbyshire won by 23 runs against Nottinghamshire at County Ground, Derby in the 21st match of 112 in the T20 Blast 2026. Aneurin Donald produced one of the innings of the tournament so far – 84 off just 31 balls – as Derbyshire racked up 234/4 and defended it comfortably despite a spirited Tom Moores counter-attack. Derbyshire sit 3rd in the standings while Notts remain rooted to the bottom without a win.
First Innings – Derbyshire 234/4 (20 overs)
Aneurin Donald was devastating from the off. He smashed seven fours and eight sixes in a 31-ball 84 that left the Nottinghamshire attack in tatters. The carnage was relentless – a strike rate of 271 that gave Derbyshire the platform they needed. He was eventually caught with the score on 112 in the 8th over, but the damage was done.
Caleb Jewell fell for 4 at 135/2 in the 11th over, but Martin Andersson anchored the innings beautifully. His unbeaten 69 off 43 balls (5×4, 5×6, SR 160) kept the scoreboard ticking and ensured there was no let-up. Wayne Madsen contributed 24 off 16 before falling at 172/3 in the 16th over, and Ross Whiteley blasted 33 off 16 (3×4, 2×6, SR 206) before departing at 207/4 in the 19th. Matthew Montgomery finished things off with a rapid 12 not out off 5 balls as Derbyshire posted a mammoth 234/4.
The Notts bowlers had a tough night. George Linde was the most expensive, going for 52 from his four overs despite picking up 2 wickets. Mohammad Ali was the most economical of the regulars at 8.75, taking 1/35. Benny Howell took 1/41, while Dillon Pennington (0/40) and Olly Stone (0/44 from just 2 overs at an economy of 22) had no answers.
Second Innings – Nottinghamshire 211/6 (20 overs)
Chasing 235, Notts needed a fast start but got the opposite. Joe Clarke fell for 9 at 24/1 in the 4th over, and although George Munsey hit 18 off 15 (3×4), his dismissal at 39/2 in the 6th over left the visitors struggling. Freddie McCann lasted just 4 balls for 1 before departing at 42/3 in the 7th, and suddenly Notts were deep in trouble at 42/3.
Jack Haynes showed real quality with 45 off 26 (4×4, 1×6, SR 173), but when he fell at 93/4 in the 12th over the required rate was already spiralling. Tom Moores was brilliant – an unbeaten 75 off 34 balls with 3 fours and 7 sixes at a strike rate of 221 – but he could not do it alone. George Linde made 29 off 18 (2×4, 2×6) and Benny Howell hit 19 off 10 (2×4, 1×6), but their dismissals at 161/5 and 205/6 kept Derbyshire in control. Joe Pocklington smashed a six off his only ball to finish on 6 not out, but Notts fell 23 runs short on 211/6.
With the ball, Martin Andersson was superb – 4-0-40-1 completing an outstanding all-round display. Akif Javed was the pick of the seamers with 1/29 from 4 overs (Econ 7.25), while Ben Aitchison took 2/44 and Nick Potts picked up 2/47. Jack Morley was tidy with 0/13 from 2 overs, but Matthew Montgomery went for 34 from his 2.

Turning Point
The dismissal of Jack Haynes at 93/4 in the 12th over was the moment this chase died. He had been the one batsman matching the required rate with 45 off 26 balls, and his departure left Notts needing 142 from 53 balls. Even Tom Moores‘s heroics could not bridge that gap. The required rate ballooned past 16 an over and the equation was never realistic from that point.
Match Context
This was match 21 of 112 in the T20 Blast 2026. Derbyshire move to 3rd in the standings with 2 wins from 4 matches (8 points) – a strong early position in the group. Nottinghamshire remain 18th and bottom with 3 losses from 3 (0 points). Three straight defeats is a dire start and Notts need to find form quickly or risk being cut adrift before the tournament enters its middle phase.
