322/7! Austria Demolish Hungary as Karanbir Singh Smashes 164
Austria won by 157 runs against Hungary in the 116th match of 143 in the 2026 T20 International season. This was not just a win – it was carnage. Austria posted a staggering 322/7 from their 20 overs, powered by Karanbir Singh‘s 164 off 57 balls and Abidullah Kotwal‘s outrageous 93* off just 26. Hungary were bowled out for 165 in reply.
Austria now lead the head-to-head 4-1 (with one no result) across six T20I meetings. They completed a clean sweep of this three-match series against Hungary. Full scorecard here.
First Innings – Austria 322/7 (20 overs)
322/7 in 20 overs. Where do you even start?
Austria won the toss and elected to bat, and what followed was one of the most destructive batting displays you will see at any level. It did not start perfectly. Bilal Zalmai (10 off 6) was caught at 35/1 in the 3rd over, and Irfan Safi (0 off 2) was bowled two balls later to make it 35/2. Early wobble? Not for Karanbir Singh.
The opener rebuilt through Shadnan Khan (14 off 16), who was run out at 115/3 in the 10th over, and kept going as wickets fell at the other end. Hamid Safi (1 off 2) was caught at 134/4 and Mansoor Safi (13 off 7) fell at 180/5 in the 13th over.
Then Abidullah Kotwal arrived, and things went completely berserk. Kotwal smashed 93* off just 26 balls – 2 fours, 12 sixes – at a strike rate of 358. Twelve sixes off 26 balls. The pair added 106 runs in just 5 overs before Karanbir was finally caught at 286/6 (ball 17.5). Mohammad Waqar Zalmai fell for a duck next ball, but it hardly mattered. Kotwal and Baseer Khan (3*) added another 36 to finish on a monumental 322/7.
Karanbir Singh’s 164 off 57 balls included 18 fours and 12 sixes at a strike rate of 288. A breathtaking innings from start to finish.
Hungary used eight bowlers and none escaped punishment. Muhammad Saqlain was the pick with 3/40 from 4 overs (econ 10). Ibrar Ahmad took 2/63 from 4, and Robert John Ainsworth claimed 1/20 from his sole over. Vinoth Ravindran went for 48 off 2 overs (econ 24) and Kasir Ahmed conceded 25 off 1.
Second Innings – Hungary 165/10 (20 overs)
Chasing 323 was never realistic, and Hungary’s top order confirmed it quickly. Abbas Ghani (15 off 9, 3 fours) was stumped at 17/1, Vinoth Ravindran (18 off 6, 2 sixes) was caught at 35/2, Ali Nawaz (2 off 4) went at 38/3, and Kasir Ahmed (3 off 3) was bowled at 43/4. At 48/5 after Kamran Wahid (1 off 6) departed, the match was long over as a contest.
Dheeraj Gaikwad (12 off 10) was bowled at 60/6, and Matthew Ainsworth (8 off 7) was caught at 66/7. Hungary were in tatters at 66/7 after just 7.3 overs.
Robert John Ainsworth provided the only real resistance with a gutsy 51* off 36 balls (5 fours, 2 sixes, SR 142). He shared an 84-run partnership with Gabor Torok (35 off 33, 4 fours) for the eighth wicket to add some respectability to the scorecard. Hungary were bowled out for 165 in the final over.
Abidullah Kotwal continued his extraordinary day with 2/11 from 2 overs (econ 5.5). Hamid Safi took 2/15 from 3 (econ 5). Bilal Zalmai claimed 2/34 from 4, Itibarshah Deedar grabbed 2/15 from 2, and Mohammad Waqar Zalmai chipped in with 1/13 from 2.
Statz MVP – Abidullah Kotwal (mi_rating 192.85)
Karanbir Singh hit 164. Read that again. 164 off 57 balls in a T20I. And yet the Statz Match Impact rating – which calculates impact based on match context across both disciplines – gives the nod to Abidullah Kotwal with a massive mi_rating of 192.85, comfortably clear of Singh’s 170.14.
Kotwal’s match figures tell the story: 93* off 26 balls with the bat (SR 358, 12 sixes) plus 2/11 from 2 overs with the ball. That all-round devastation in the context of this match is remarkable. Karanbir Singh was named official Man of the Match – for the second time today, Statz disagrees.

Turning Point
Austria were 35/2 after just 2.4 overs when Bilal Zalmai and Irfan Safi fell in quick succession (fow 35 at balls 2.2 and 2.4). At that point the innings could have unravelled. Instead, Karanbir Singh dug in, rebuilt through the middle overs, and then found the perfect partner in Abidullah Kotwal. From 180/5 at 12.5 overs, the pair launched an assault that produced 106 runs in just 5 overs. That partnership turned what could have been a competitive 220-230 into an untouchable 322.
