India Win T20 World Cup 2026 Final: Bumrah Masterclass Crushes New Zealand
8th April 2026
India claimed the T20 Cricket World Cup 2026 title at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, 8 March, dismantling New Zealand by 96 runs in a final that was never in doubt once the batting fireworks began.
India Innings – 255/5
Sanju Samson anchored India’s assault from the front, smashing 89 off 46 balls at a strike rate of 193.48 with 5 fours and 8 sixes. He was brilliantly complemented by Abhishek Sharma (52 off 21, SR 247.62) at the top, the pair putting on 98 for the first wicket inside 8 overs. When Abhishek fell to Rachin Ravindra in the 8th over, Ishan Kishan marched in and continued the carnage – 54 off 25 at a strike rate of 216.
New Zealand’s bowlers had no answer. James Neesham chipped in with three wickets but went for 46 off his four overs (11.50 econ). Lockie Ferguson conceded 48 in just 2 overs. A late flurry from Shivam Dube – 26 off 8 including 3 fours and 2 sixes – pushed India to an imposing 255/5 from their 20 overs.
New Zealand Chase – 159 All Out
Chasing 256, New Zealand were always going to need something special. They got a bright start from Tim Seifert (52 off 26, SR 200) but the wickets kept tumbling. Jasprit Bumrah was absolutely unplayable – 4 wickets for just 15 runs from 4 overs, an economy of 3.75 in a chase of 256. Bumrah removed Finn Allen, Matt Henry, and two more to rip the heart out of the innings.
Axar Patel supported with 3/27 and Hardik Pandya chipped in with 1/36. Mitchell Santner tried his best with 43 off 35 down the order but New Zealand were all out for 159 in 19 overs, well short of the target.
