India Edge England in T20 World Cup 2026 Semi-Final Thriller

India survived a remarkable England fightback to reach the T20 Cricket World Cup 2026 Final, winning by 7 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday, 5 March. A combined 499 runs were scored in a match that had everything.

India Innings – 253/7

Sanju Samson was the spine of India’s innings once again, making 89 off 42 at a strike rate of 211.9. He received solid support from Ishan Kishan (39 off 18, SR 216.67) and Shivam Dube (43 off 25, SR 172). Hardik Pandya smashed 27 off 12 in the final overs before being run out, and Tilak Varma hit 21 off 7 (SR 300) to push India to 253/7.

England’s bowlers struggled to contain India’s lower order blitz. Jofra Archer conceded 61 from four overs (econ 15.25) while Sam Curran went for 53. Adil Rashid (2/41) and Will Jacks (2/40) were the only bowlers to take multiple wickets.

England Chase – 246/7

England came agonisingly close to one of the great World Cup chases. Jacob Bethell played the innings of the tournament – 105 off 48 balls, a breathtaking knock at a strike rate of 218.75 with 8 fours and 7 sixes – before being run out by Hardik Pandya in the 19th over when England still needed 82 from 11 balls. Will Jacks had struck 35 off 20 earlier, and Jofra Archer smashed 19 off 4 (SR 475) at the death but England fell 7 short at 246/7.

Hardik Pandya (2/38, 9.5 econ) and Bumrah (1/33) did the damage with the ball for India.
