South Africa levelled the T20I series at 2-2 with a 19-run win at Sky Stadium, Wellington on Sunday, 22 March. They posted 164/5 and then their spinners took control to bowl New Zealand out for 145 with seven balls to spare.
South Africa Innings – 164/5
Connor Esterhuizen was once again the batting star – 57 off 36 at a strike rate of 158.33, his third strong score in the series. Rubin Hermann chipped in with 28 not out off 25 and Jason Smith added 19 off 14. New Zealand were able to restrict South Africa to 164/5 thanks to economical bowling from Ben Sears (1/22) and Kyle Jamieson (2/29), but ultimately could not get the total low enough.
New Zealand Chase – 145 All Out
Prenelan Subrayen was the match-winner with the ball – 2/13 from 3 overs (econ 4.33), the best economy of any SA bowler in the match. Keshav Maharaj (2/22, econ 5.5) and Gerald Coetzee (3/31) also made inroads. New Zealand were bowled out for 145 in the 19th over despite Tim Robinson (32 off 22) and Dane Cleaver (26 off 16) giving the chase a decent start. The series now goes to a decider.
