Cardiff vs Chelsea: Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview

16th December 2025

It’s Carabao Quarter-Final time and we’re being served a Tuesday appetiser, before Wednesday’s main course, with the Bluebirds Cardiff hosting the Boys in Blue, Chelsea.

Chelsea’s recent form has been a mixed bag, with several sub-par performances exacerbated by some spiky comments from manager Enzo Maresca. But, it was only a few weeks ago that they were being spoken about as Arsenal’s main challengers, and all thing considered they’ve had a strong start to the season.

Chelsea should rest and rotate here against League 1 opposition, but they should be careful not to underestimate Cardiff, who look to be the class of their division and should bounce straight back into the Championship. Whether they can carry their league form into this much tougher assignment remains to be seen, but we should note that the BlueBirds have been dominant, averaging 1.9 goals per game and nearly 60% possession in their 19 league games this season.

Cardiff vs Chelsea: Team News

Chelsea will rotate here, with the likes of Enzo and Palmer sitting out, whereas you’d expect Cardiff to be at full-strength albeit without the services of Omari Kellyman who is on loan from Chelsea – charmingly the Premier League side have refused a request for him to play.

Cardiff City possible starting lineup:

Trott; Ng, Fish, Chambers, Bagan; Wintle, Robertson, Turnbull; Ashford, Salech, J. Colwill

Chelsea possible starting lineup:

Jorgensen; Acheampong, Adarabioyo, Badiashile, Hato; Caicedo, Santos; Estevao, Buonanotte, Gittens; George

Cardiff vs Chelsea: Best Bets

There’s always a wide-range of opportunities in the betting markets in these kind of cup ties – it’s obviously hard to price up how League 1 opposition will fare against Premier League quality. This is especially true in stats-based markets like Corners and Fouls, and it’s definitely the case in the Player Passes market where there’s two stand-out selections.

Joel Bagan (LB) and Ryan Wintle (CDM) average 50 passes per game and are central to the way Cardiff want to play.

Of course, we’d expect Chelsea to dominate possession, but with lines as low as 30 for these two passers, it’s worth taking on. Multiple approaches here – the biggest opportunity is to take the highest lines, where the market significantly undervalue the true probability.
