Wilder has since returned but has been unable to wave a magic wand, despite having many of the same players as last season at his disposal. Since taking control of the Blades again on September 16, Wilder’s formline in the league reads W3 D1 L6.
It’s even gloomier for Wednesday, with a detested owner, transfer embargoes and points deductions seeing all their hard work so far rendered pointless – literally, with the Owls stuck on -4.

Although the Steel City derby hasn’t always been the most entertaining of contests, this edition could be a humdinger as per the Statz model projections.
If the game lives up to this billing, it will be unmissable.
It might need an early goal to live up to this promise, but if one is forthcoming then an action-packed encounter – in which Sheffield United are just about fancied, given our goal supremacy projection of 1.63-1.17 in their favour – could ensue.
