The Story

CSK won the toss and chose to field – and for a while it looked like a smart call. Jacob Duffy removed Virat Kohli (28 off 18) early, and Philip Salt (46 off 30) was building steadily rather than exploding. At 93/2 after the first ten overs, RCB were in reasonable shape but hadn’t shifted into top gear.

Devdutt Padikkal changed that. His 50 off 29 balls (SR 172) accelerated the scoring rate, and Rajat Patidar arrived at the crease with four overs left and immediately took the attack on. But the match-defining moment was the arrival of Tim David at No.5.

What followed was carnage. David smashed 70 off 25 balls – 3 fours, 8 sixes, strike rate of 280 – finishing unbeaten alongside Patidar (48* off 19, SR 252). The pair added an unbroken 99 for the fourth wicket off just 30 balls. RCB ended on 250/3 – a target that quickly proved beyond CSK.

The chase never got going. Duffy‘s opening spell was brutal in the other direction: Ruturaj Gaikwad gone for 7 in the first over, Sanju Samson for 9 three balls later, Ayush Mhatre for 1 in the next. Three wickets down for 30 inside 2.5 overs – the game was effectively over.

Sarfaraz Khan (50 off 25) and Jamie Overton (37 off 16) offered lower-order resistance, but the required rate was always beyond them. Bhuvneshwar Kumar wrapped up the tail with 3/41, RCB winning by a comfortable 43 runs.

Statz MVP: Tim David — Rating 78.0

No debate. Tim David tops the Statz Rating at 78.0 out of 100 – the highest score by distance. The metric combines batting impact, bowling effectiveness, and match context, and David hit every pressure point: he came in with RCB needing acceleration, delivered it instantly, and finished unbeaten as the primary architect of the winning total.

70 off 25 balls. 8 sixes. SR 280. In the context of a 251-run target, this was not a cameo – it was the difference between chaseable and impossible.

Top 5 Statz Ratings

Rank Player Team Rating Key contribution
1 Tim David RCB 78.0 70 off 25, SR 280, 8 sixes
2 Rajat Patidar RCB 56.6 48* off 19, SR 252, 6 sixes
3 Jamie Overton CSK 55.6 37 off 16 with bat, 1 wicket
4 Sarfaraz Khan CSK 43.4 50 off 25, SR 200
5 Bhuvneshwar Kumar RCB 42.0 3/41 off 4, Econ 10.25

Statz applies a 15% loss penalty to all ratings – which explains why Overton (55.6) and Sarfaraz (43.4), both strong individually, still rank below RCB’s match-winners despite significant contributions.

Turning Point

CSK were 30/3 inside 2.5 overs. Losing Gaikwad, Samson, and Mhatre in the opening three overs of a 251-run chase at the Chinnaswamy left the middle order needing a near-perfect performance just to make it respectable. The powerplay ended at 77/4 (Sarfaraz out in the 6.1st over). From that point, the result was never in doubt.

Match Context

RCB’s win continues their strong form in IPL 2026. The Chinnaswamy’s short boundaries and true pitch were perfectly suited to Tim David’s power game – a venue factor that will feature in RCB home previews all season. CSK’s top-order fragility against quality new-ball bowling is a pattern worth watching across their remaining fixtures.
