Yorkshire’s spin attack demolishes Durham for 93 in comprehensive 58-run victory

Yorkshire won by 58 runs. That was the story at the Riverside Ground, Chester-le-Street, as the White Rose’s bowling unit tore through Durham’s batting lineup in match 22 of 112 in the T20 Blast 2026.

Durham won the toss and chose to bowl, but after restricting Yorkshire to 151/9, the hosts were bundled out for just 93 in 16.2 overs in reply. A chase that never got going.

First innings – Yorkshire 151/9 (20 overs)

James Wharton was the backbone of Yorkshire’s innings with a superb 64 off 41 balls, smashing eight fours and a six at a strike rate of 156. He arrived with Yorkshire wobbling at 9/2 and built the innings almost single-handedly, putting on 69 with Jonny Bairstow who contributed a handy 43 off 37.

The partnership of 72 between Bairstow and Wharton dragged Yorkshire from early trouble to a competitive platform. Wharton was eventually bowled at 124/5 in the 17th over, but Matthew Revis provided late fireworks with 19 off just 8 balls at a strike rate of 238 to push the total past 150.

Durham’s bowlers deserve credit for keeping Yorkshire in check. Matty Potts was outstanding with 3/20 from his four overs at an economy of 5.00 – the best figures of the innings. Kasey Aldridge matched him with 3/28 at 7.00, while Callum Parkinson kept things tight at 1/23 with an economy of 5.75. The problem was never the bowling – it was the batting that failed Durham.

Second innings – Durham 93 all out (16.2 overs)

This was a demolition job. Durham’s chase fell apart almost immediately when Graham Clark fell for 4 in the first over at 6/1, and Alex Lees followed for 2 to leave them 10/2. David Bedingham fought hard with 41 off 29 balls including five fours at a strike rate of 141, but he was a lone warrior in a sinking ship.

Once Bedingham was caught at 62/3 in the 10th over, Durham collapsed spectacularly. From 62/3 they lost their remaining seven wickets for just 31 runs. The middle order crumbled – Colin Ackermann managed 4, Will Rhodes made 11 off 16 balls, and the lower order simply had no answers.

Moeen Ali and Dominic Bess were devastating with the ball. Moeen returned 2/12 from three overs at an economy of 4.00, while Bess took 2/13 from 3.2 overs at 3.90. The spin duo suffocated Durham’s middle and lower order completely. Hasan Ali chipped in with 2/11 from two overs, and Faheem Ashraf added 1/7 from his two. Six bowlers used, four took wickets – Yorkshire’s attack was relentless.

Potts hit a defiant 19 off 13 with two fours and a six to briefly lift spirits, but it was far too little, far too late as Durham were bowled out with 22 balls still unused.

Statz MVP – Matty Potts (Statz Rating: 131.88)

No official Man of the Match was awarded, but Statz has one clear standout. Matty Potts delivered a rare all-round display that stood head and shoulders above everyone else on the park. His 3/20 with the ball was the most economical spell of the Yorkshire innings, and he followed it up with a gutsy 19 off 13 batting at number nine when Durham’s top order had already capitulated.

A Statz Rating of 131.88 – comfortably the highest of the match. In a losing cause, Potts was the one Durham player who turned up with both bat and ball.

Turning point

The dismissal of David Bedingham at 62/3 in the 10th over. While Bedingham was at the crease striking at 141, Durham had hope – they were behind the rate but not out of it. His departure triggered a catastrophic collapse of 31/8 that ended the contest in a hurry. Seven wickets fell for 31 runs as Yorkshire’s spinners ran riot through a panicking middle and lower order.

Match context

Yorkshire maintain their perfect start to the T20 Blast 2026, moving to 3 wins from 3 matches and 12 points. They sit second in the standings behind Northamptonshire only on net run rate, with both sides on 12 points from three games. This was a statement win – not just the margin, but the manner. Six different bowlers used, four taking wickets, and a total team effort.

For Durham, this is their first defeat after two wins from three matches. They sit seventh with 8 points and will need to bounce back quickly. Their bowling did the job restricting Yorkshire to 151, but 93 all out in 16.2 overs tells its own story – the batting has serious questions to answer.
