DER vs NOT – T20 Blast 2026 Match Report | Statz
30th May 2026
Aneurin Donald blitzes 84 off 31 as Derbyshire blast 234/4 to overpower Nottinghamshire
Derbyshire won by 23 runs. That was the headline at the County Ground, Derby, but it barely captures the carnage of a match that produced 445 runs in 40 overs. Aneurin Donald launched eight sixes and seven fours in a devastating 84 off just 31 balls as Derbyshire posted 234/4 – a total that even a brilliant 75 not out from Tom Moores could not chase down for Nottinghamshire. First innings – Derbyshire 234/4 (20 overs)
Aneurin Donald played one of the innings of the tournament so far. Walking in with Derbyshire needing a platform, he struck 84 off 31 deliveries at a strike rate of 271, clearing the boundary eight times and finding the rope seven more. It was brutal, calculated hitting that left Nottinghamshire’s attack in tatters.
Donald put on a crucial opening stand before falling caught at 112 in the 8th over, but by then the damage was done. Martin Andersson was the perfect foil at the other end, carrying his bat for an unbeaten 69 off 43 balls with five fours and five sixes at a strike rate of 160. Where Donald was explosive, Andersson was relentless – anchoring the innings from first ball to last.
The middle order kept the foot down. Wayne Madsen contributed a brisk 24 off 16 with four boundaries before falling at 172 in the 16th over. Ross Whiteley then unleashed 33 off 16 at a strike rate of 206 with three fours and two sixes, and Matthew Montgomery smashed an unbeaten 12 off 5 to close out a mammoth total. From 172/3 in the 16th over, Derbyshire plundered 62 runs off the last 29 balls.
Nottinghamshire’s bowling figures made grim reading. Olly Stone went for 44 from just two overs at an economy of 22. George Linde took 2/52 but conceded at 13 an over. Mohammad Ali was the most economical of the main bowlers at 8.75 with 1/35, while Benny Howell picked up 1/41 from his four. Nobody escaped punishment on a flat deck.
Second innings – Nottinghamshire 211/6 (20 overs)
Chasing 235, Nottinghamshire needed a fast start but lost Joe Clarke for 9 off 12 balls at 24/2 in the 4th over and George Munsey for 18 off 15 at 39/2 in the 6th over. The required rate was already climbing.
Jack Haynes counter-attacked with 45 off 26 balls at a strike rate of 173 to keep the chase alive, smashing four fours and a six. But his dismissal at 93/3 in the 12th over left too much to do for the lower middle order.
Enter Tom Moores. The wicketkeeper-batter played a sensational unbeaten 75 off 34 balls at a strike rate of 221, hitting three fours and seven sixes. It was an extraordinary knock in a losing cause. George Linde supported with 29 off 18 at 161, and Benny Howell blasted 19 off 10, but the asking rate had spiralled beyond reach.
Moores and Linde put on 68 for the fifth wicket, hauling Nottinghamshire from 93/4 to 161/5 in the 17th over – briefly sparking hope. But Linde’s departure and the sheer volume of runs still needed meant even Moores’ brilliance was not enough. Nottinghamshire finished on 211/6 – a total that would have won most T20 matches comfortably, but not this one.
With the ball, Akif Javed was Derbyshire’s most economical bowler at 1/29 from four overs. Ben Aitchison took 2/44, Nick Potts grabbed 2/47, and Martin Andersson completed a fine all-round day with 1/40 from his four overs.
Statz MVP – Aneurin Donald (Statz Rating: 132.8)
No official Man of the Match was awarded, but Statz has a clear pick. Aneurin Donald’s 84 off 31 balls was the defining innings of the match – 271 strike rate, eight sixes, seven fours. He set the tone for everything that followed. Without his explosive start, Derbyshire would not have reached 234, and the match would have been a completely different contest.
A Statz Rating of 132.8 – the highest of a match full of outstanding individual performances. In a game where 445 runs were scored, Donald stood tallest.

Turning point
The fall of Jack Haynes at 93/3 in the 12th over. While Haynes was striking at 173 alongside Tom Moores, the chase felt achievable – Nottinghamshire needed 142 from 53 balls with seven wickets in hand. His departure at that stage meant the required rate climbed past 16 an over, and even Moores’ heroics could only close the gap rather than bridge it. Freddie McCann had already fallen cheaply at 42/4, and the pressure on each incoming batter was immense.
Match context
This was a high-scoring thriller – 445 runs across 40 overs of pure T20 entertainment at the County Ground. Derbyshire move to third in the T20 Blast 2026 standings with two wins and two losses for 8 points, keeping pace with early leaders Northamptonshire and Yorkshire who both sit on 12 points from three wins apiece.
For Nottinghamshire, it is a third consecutive defeat to open the tournament. They sit 18th with zero points from three matches and desperately need to get off the mark. The batting showed fight here – 211 is no disgrace in any T20 chase – but conceding 234 left them chasing an impossible target from the start. The bowling, not the batting, is where Notts need answers.
