Hasan Ali and Andrew Tye Rescue Yorkshire in Last-Ball Thriller Against Derbyshire

Yorkshire won by 2 wickets (with 4 balls remaining) against Derbyshire in the 15th match of 112 in the T20 Blast 2026 at Headingley, Leeds. Needing 73 from the last 5 overs with just two wickets in hand, Hasan Ali (31 not out off 12) and Andrew Tye (32 not out off 13) produced a sensational unbroken ninth-wicket partnership to snatch victory.

First Innings – Derbyshire 194/4 (20 overs)

Aneurin Donald (10 off 5, SR 200) provided a quick start before falling at 19/1 in the 2nd over. Caleb Jewell (20 off 16) added 40 with Martin Andersson before departing at 59/2 in the 7th over, and Wayne Madsen (2 off 4) went cheaply at 63/3.

Andersson was the backbone with an unbeaten 81 off 56 (SR 145), anchoring the innings from top to bottom. Matthew Montgomery (35 off 23, SR 152) added 73 for the fourth wicket, and Ross Whiteley (39 not out off 17, SR 229) launched a devastating assault in the final overs. The pair added 58 off just 28 balls to push Derbyshire to an imposing 194/4.

Hasan Ali (1/37) and Tye (1/51) were expensive with the ball, while Jafer Chohan (1/32, economy 8.00) and Matthew Revis (1/29) kept things slightly tighter.

Second Innings – Yorkshire 195/8 (19.2 overs)

Adam Lyth (31 off 11, SR 282) blazed a rapid start with five boundaries, but his dismissal at 38/1 triggered a middle-order collapse. Jonny Bairstow (8 off 9) was LBW at 42/2, James Wharton (5 off 10) struggled at 49/3, and William Luxton (5 off 9) was bowled at 65/4.

Moeen Ali (51 off 35, SR 146) tried to rebuild, but wickets kept falling around him. Revis (13 off 9) went at 101/5, George Hill (0 off 2) at 102/6, and Moeen himself was caught at 123/7 in the 15th over. When Dominic Bess (7 off 6) fell at 195/8 – wait, that was the winning moment.

Actually, the heroics were all about Hasan Ali and Tye. With Yorkshire needing 73 from 30 balls at 123/7, the pair came together and produced one of the great Blast finishes. Hasan Ali smashed 31 not out off 12 (SR 258) and Tye 32 not out off 13 (SR 246) in an unbroken 72-run ninth-wicket stand that took Yorkshire home.

Jack Morley (4/44 from 4 overs) was outstanding for Derbyshire with four wickets, while Nick Potts (2/44) and Montgomery (1/21, economy 5.25) also contributed. But nobody could stop the Ali-Tye onslaught at the death.

Turning Point

Yorkshire were 123/7 in the 15th over when Moeen Ali was caught off Jack Morley. At that point, Yorkshire still needed 72 from 31 balls with only tail-enders remaining. It should have been over. Instead, Hasan Ali and Tye turned the turning point on its head – their unbroken ninth-wicket stand of 72 off just 25 balls was the most improbable match-winning partnership of the Blast so far.
